The Problem WiFi QR Codes Solve

Every hospitality business deals with the same friction: guests ask for the WiFi password, staff repeat it 50 times a day, guests mistype it, frustration builds. WiFi QR codes eliminate this entirely.

How WiFi QR Codes Work

A WiFi QR code encodes your network credentials in a standard format:

WIFI:T:WPA;S:YourNetworkName;P:YourPassword;H:false;;

When scanned:

  • Android 10+: automatically prompts to connect, no typing required
  • iOS 11+: shows a "Join" button, one tap connects
  • Older devices: shows the SSID and password as text to type manually

Create a WiFi QR Code

1. Go to [QR Generators](http://localhost:6161/create)

2. Select WiFi from the type menu

3. Enter: Network name (SSID), Password, Security type (WPA/WPA2, WEP, or Open)

4. Check "Hidden network" only if your network doesn't broadcast its SSID

5. Customize and download

Note: WiFi QR codes are always static. The credentials are encoded in the pattern, not a redirect URL, so there's nothing to "update" without reprinting.

Security Consideration

WiFi QR codes display your credentials (in encoded form). They're convenient for guest networks, but don't use them for your internal business network — anyone who photographs the QR code can access your network indefinitely.

Best practice:

  • Guest network only — create a separate guest WiFi with limited access
  • Change the password periodically and reprint the QR code
  • Add an expiry reminder in your calendar

Where to Place WiFi QR Codes

LocationBest placement
Café / coffee shopEach table + counter + window
HotelRoom TV card, welcome pamphlet, nightstand
Coworking spaceReception desk, each hot desk, meeting rooms
RestaurantTable tent, menu insert
Retail storeNear the entrance, fitting rooms
Event venueEach session room entrance

Design Tips for WiFi QR Codes

Add context text next to the QR code:

  • 📶 Free Guest WiFi
  • Network: *YourNetworkName*
  • [QR code]
  • *Scan to connect instantly*

This tells guests what the QR code does before they scan, increasing the scan rate dramatically.
